The Doyon Foundation journey doesn’t end with graduation! We are so proud of our alumni, the amazing places they have gone on to, the achievements they are making, and the positive differences they are having in their communities. Each month, we feature an update on one of our alumni. This month, we are pleased to highlight Jenna Sommer, one of the four Doyon Foundation staff members who are also previous scholarship recipients!
Where are you from?
I am from Fairbanks, and currently live there. My mom is from Galena, Alaska, and my dad is from Nulato, Alaska.
What is your educational background?
I have graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with my Associate of Applied Science degree in medical assisting, a healthcare reimbursement certificate, and a medical/dental reception certificate.
What are you doing now?
I have been with Doyon Foundation for over seven years and I am currently the scholarship program manager.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I would like to thank our donors for their generous donations to the Foundation. You truly make a difference for our students and we are extremely grateful!
I advise students to never give up and to not be afraid to ask questions. Keep up with assignments and use available resources. Everything worth doing takes time and effort.
