Invasive plant coordinators
14 one-year positions, various locations in Alaska
Responsibilities: Work with invasive plant specialists and local resources to develop and carry out invasive plant management plans, including surveys of weed distribution, weed control efforts, public education and outreach. Inventory and document new infestations and provide data to appropriate agencies. Some in-state travel required.
Desired qualifications: Knowledge of local area (both geographically and socially), good communication/outreach skills with public and private landowners, experience developing and making public presentations, and ability to organize and motivate volunteers for community projects. A well-organized self-starter, able to prioritize well, willing and able to do outdoor field work. A demonstrated interest, employment history or education in biology, botany, environmental science or resource management is a plus. Training in field sampling techniques, data collection (GPS), plant identification, and invasive plant mitigation methods will be provided. Will be expected to take employer-provided training to become a State-certified herbicide applicator. Valid Alaska driver’s license required.
Positions will be filled in the following communities (subject to change): Aniak, Anchorage, Cordova, Delta Junction, Dillingham, Fairbanks, Glennallen, Homer, Juneau, Kenai, Kodiak, Metlakatla, Palmer, Talkeetna.
