Doyon Foundation will host its 10th annual Morris Thompson Memorial Golf Classic on June 17 – 18, 2010 at Chena Bend Golf Course on Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. The two-day golf classic features a nine-hole scramble, skills tournament, reception, golf banquet, and more than $20,000 in player prizes, plus $10,000 in door prizes. A detailed schedule is available at www.doyonfoundation.com.

For 10 years, this annual event has supported the Morris Thompson Scholarship Fund, an endowed fund established by Doyon Foundation to benefit Alaska Native, higher education students studying business management and leadership. Last year, the classic raised $60,661 for the scholarship program.

“I honestly would not have been able to make it financially without the assistance of Doyon Foundation. Also to know that one has the support of your people while engaging in such rigorous work and so far from home helps me as well,” said Jessica Black, a 2009 – 2010 Morris Thompson competitive scholarship recipient, who is pursuing her PhD in social work at Washington University in St. Louis.

The golf classic was established in honor of the late Morris Thompson, an Alaska Native leader who served as the president/CEO of Doyon, Limited from 1985 until his passing in 2000.

Doris Miller, Doyon Foundation’s executive director, said the success of the golf classic is dependent on the support from golfers and sponsors. Approximately 100 golfers are expected this year, and the 2010 major sponsors include:
