The National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) in collaboration with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development (NICHD), the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), and the Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Medical Association (NMA) are pleased to announce the 2013 NIH-NMA Travel Awards Program. The program provides an opportunity for selected residents and fellows, who are interested in careers in academic medicine, to attend the NMA Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly. This year’s Convention will take place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from July 27 to July 31, 2013.

- Complimentary conference registration
- Round trip airfare (economy)
- Up to 5 days/ 4 nights of hotel accommodations
- Per diem for ground transportation and meals
- Attendance at a special one and half day NIH Workshop on Career Development in Academic Medicine
Eligibility:
- Individuals interested in membership in the National Medical Association
- Members of nationally underrepresented groups in biomedical or behavioral research science
- Residents, fellows, post-doctoral scientists, or early stage investigators
- U.S. citizens, non-citizen national, or legal permanent resident
- May not have received travel support under this announcement in previous years
How to Apply:
- Submit a completed application
- Provide a personal statement describing the candidate’s research interests career ambitions, and how attending the program will influence the candidate’s training and development
- Provide a Curriculum Vita
- Provide a letter of support from the Chairperson or Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program indicating how the applicant will continue to be supported in their pursuit of a career in academic medicine
