Alaska Geographic at the Murie Science and Learning Center is recruiting motivated young adults for two outstanding week-long opportunities. They are offering two wilderness expeditions at no-cost to teens that are showing promise as young leaders, have an interest in the sciences, and wouldn’t necessarily have the financial or support means for an opportunity like this. Their aim is to have a diverse mix of young Alaskans from the Fairbanks area on each of these two expeditions. The high school expedition will be backpacking in Denali for a week, and the middle school expedition will head up the Haul Road into the Brooks Range to meet and work with scientists. Both expeditions will develop strong camping and self-care skills, and facilitate successful team building.

They are looking for adults that can recommend/nominate good teens for these two experiences. For a teen to be accepted they will have been nominated by a community leader – a teacher, a coach, neighbor, etc. They are looking for nominators that have seen the student in different situations. They’d also love to have nominators that might be willing to assist this student – keep them motivated and excited to attend, and congratulate them for completing the experience.

Below are the complete packet of material – the expedition descriptions, the nominator forms, and the student application forms.
