The Alaska Native Heritage Center is looking for instructors to teach language for their Hight School and other language classes.

Teachers – responsibilities will include attending accelerated language learning workshops and immersion strategies gathering, attending workshops and training on fluency assessments, taking lead in developing multigenerational lesson plans, activities, and materials for immersion-based classes, and teaching language classes and two-day immersion day camps. Develop culturally based fluency assessment which can be shared with other programs in Alaska. Estimated number of participation hours: 250.

Assistant teachers – responsibilities will include attending accelerated language learning workshops and immersion strategies gathering, assisting in preparing language lessons and assisting teachers in teaching language classes and two-day immersion day camps. Estimated number of participation hours: 225.

Advisors – This project will engage 4 or more expert teachers who are fluent speaker of Yup’ik and Inupiaq to assist teachers in instructional strategies, lesson planning and implementation of pilot classes on an as-needed basis, and observing classes and immersion day camps to assist with program, development and evaluation. Provide other guidance to the project at monthly language team meetings. Estimated number of participation hours: 160

Elders – The project will engage eight or more Yup’ik and Inupiaq Elders who are fluent speakers and culture bearers to provide input and guidance on developing culturally based language classes, assist language classes as a model of fluent speaking and immersion events. Estimated number of participation hours: 160.
