Doyon Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of Doris Miller as the Foundation’s new executive director. Miller, who has served as the Foundation’s interim executive director for more than a year, assumed the position on Tuesday, February 16, 2010.
“Doris brings an energy and dedication to our region that will be well-suited for the challenges of this position. With her extended role as interim executive director, we are confident that she will do an excellent job and will make an immediate impact on the current operations,” said Doyon Foundation board president Shane Derendoff. He added that Miller was selected for the position following a thorough search and interview process led by a Foundation board sub-committee.
Miller originally joined the Foundation in September 2007 as the Foundation’s scholarship program manager. Prior to Doyon Foundation, Miller worked at an interior Native nonprofit organization for 17 years, serving in various programs including community health services, mental health and alcohol programs, quality management and administration.
“I am very happy to take on this leadership position and I look forward to continuing to serve the students, the Doyon Foundation and our many supporters. We have many exciting things taking place this year, including the 10th anniversary of the Morris Thompson Memorial Golf Classic. I’m certain that the team we have here at the Foundation will continue the tradition of excellence in all that we do,” Miller said.
Doyon Foundation was established in 1989 by Doyon, Limited, the Fairbanks-based regional Native corporation for Interior Alaska. The Foundation’s mission is to provide the highest level of support to Doyon shareholders and their descendents by providing post-secondary scholarships; advancing traditional Native knowledge; and increasing Native student performance levels. Since inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $4 million in scholarships to more than 2,300 students.
