Funding for this program is provided by the Newman’s Own Foundation. This is a full-time position, not to exceed 6 months.

Participate in development and production of weekly news analysis program “Washington Week.”  Primary responsibilities as assigned by Managing Editor, Senior Producer and Producer include research national and international news stories, gather video elements, monitor and log live news events, generate story ideas, copy edit, supervise video editing, and produce broadcast and web content.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in development and production of Washington Week:

o   Research issues and prepare background information for news segments. Produce video, sound and graphic elements that may include package production.Log and archive video feeds, maintain production notes and supervise editing.

  • Work with Washington Week staff to update program website:

o   Coordinate and produce web content and features including but not limited to interviews, podcasts, webchats, etc

o   Create web pages with text, photos and graphics. Write and copy edit web content.

o   Assist in updating and maintenance of web features and content.

o   Coordinate with outside entities (including partners and sponsors) to develop additional or new web content.

o   Work with PBS editors to maintain or collaborate on issues regarding the Washington Week website.

  • Participate in station relations, program marketing, and promotion activities as directed.
  • Work with Washington Week staff to develop & implement video archive.
  • Participate in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of television and video production including familiarity with AVID, Final Cut and/or Adobe Premier editing.
  • Knowledge of various research sources with particular emphasis on using the web as a research tool.
  • Knowledge of digital shooting.
  • Fluency with social media sites and best practices to engage users.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS, Drupal or familiarity with other CMS helpful.
  • Interest and knowledge in current events, politics, and history.
  • Strong news writing skills, understanding of current events and sound editorial judgment required.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule including Friday evenings.May require occasional overnight travel.
  • Must provide two letters of recommendation with application.
  • Excellent organizational, project planning, presentation and time management skills with careful attention to detail needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills. Careful attention to detail with strong editing, proofreading, research and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully perform duties in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures
  • Strong understanding and application of computer technology to efficiently accomplish work, using social media tools, HTML, Microsoft Office programs, email, Internet, and database management software.

Education

  • College degree required.Major in journalism, digital media, communication, history or political science preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in journalism and strong news writing and copy editing skills. Experience should include creating digital or broadcast content from concept to shooting and editing.
  • Background in web production helpful.
