Graduation date: May 7, 2016
Degree: Master’s of divinity
Area of study: Chaplian ministry
Plans after graduation: Following graduation, I plan to put my education to work by attending a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) internship program at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Upon completion I plan to seek three more CPE units in Providence’s CPE residency program. In conjunction with CPE, I will plan on seeking credentials with a faith group in Alaska to prepare for a career in the chaplaincy field. Hopefully go fishing somewhere in there too.
How has Doyon Foundation assisted you in pursuit of your educational goals? My educational goals have been obtained in a large part by Doyon Foundation’s generous competitive/basic scholarship programs. Especially through my last year, the 2015-2016 scholarships were pivotal in helping me financially, so I could keep my focus on the academic work at hand.
Advice for current and future students: A professor at Oral Roberts University once said, “It is not if you are intelligent enough to obtain your degree, the difference is whether or not you endure to the end.” Run your race, balancing the details of life you have to work with, and once you start a new semester, get up to pace, and keep the pace all the way to the end.
Special thank you’s: Giving God the glory, honor, and praise! Thank you, Jesus. I’d like to extend a special thank you to my parents Carl and Marcia Whitworth, and my siblings and their beautiful families. Special thank you to my relatives, friends, and brothers and sisters.
