The Doyon Foundation journey doesn’t end with graduation! We are so proud of our alumni, the amazing places they have gone on to, the achievements they are making, and the positive differences they are having in their communities. Each month, we will feature an update on one of our alumni. This month, we are pleased to highlight Taniesha Moses.

School: University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF)

Degree: Bachelor’s of Social Work

Year graduated: 2021

What are you doing now? Right after graduating, I applied for a dream job and now I work at UAF as the Indigenous Wellness Outreach Coordinator for Rural Student Services.

Anything else you would like to share? Getting an education is important because it empowers people to change their life. It gave me the chance to heal and grow in ways I wouldn’t have otherwise. It can uplift not only the individual person, but it also positively affects the family and community as well. The most important thing I learned was that being able to read, write and speak authentically with articulation is a powerful skill to have. But I also learned that success is not only a job title or a big salary. Success is also being in touch with the land and community. It is continuing traditions and learning our language.

Are you a former Doyon Foundation scholarship recipient who has graduated? We would love to hear from you! Please reach out to [email protected] or 907.459.2049.
