ANCSA and the Pipeline

It’s said that the Trans Alaska Pipeline System couldn’t have happened without passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. It’s also said that the Claims Act couldn’t have been possible without the pipeline, at least in its present form. The pipeline and the oil wealth it brought laid the foundation for Alaska’s modern economy, and the Claims Act today is laying the foundation for our future economy.

Hear the inside story on these two monumental events in Alaska’s recent history and how they were related. Former U.S. Senator Mike Gravel, North Slope Mayor Edward Itta, oil historian Jack Roderick, and natural resources writer Tim Bradner will discuss these events at the next ANCSA@40 panel, planned for Friday, April 8, at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Journalist Nellie Moore will moderate. The event will be at 7 p.m. in Room 101 in the Rasmuson Hall Building on the UAA campus. ANCSA@40 is a year-long series of panel discussions and events celebrating the 40th anniversary of passage by Congress of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act.
